We are noticing that the freightage of goods on an international level is running for centuries. With the widespread use of e-commerce, now the shipping companies are more into the business to move the goods of the national and international levels. Logistics companies in Dubai, UAE, USA, Australia and almost all around the world are now adopting advanced ways and techniques to provide comfort and fast, safe and on-time deliveries to the customers.

International transportation involves some mainstream stakeholders including booking agents, freight forwarders, custom house brokers and more. There are total seven steps for international shipping which includes five physical and two steps includes the documentation. Each step has a separate cost association which has to be solved by the shipper or the consignee. In this article, we focus to explain the seven steps of international shipping.

Export Haulage

The very first step for international shipping is the export haulage which means to move the goods from the shipper to the warehouse. It depends on the load of the consignment that if the load is less than a container then it is shifted to the warehouse where the people haired by the shipper are available for further management. If the shipper is responsible to shift the goods, one may take it through the local transport may be a rail or a truck on road. But if the consignee is responsible, for example, a shipment is coming from Dubai so he may arrange a freight forwarder in Dubai for moving the goods. It is good to ask a logistic company to take your export haulage for international transportation.

Export Customs Clearance

It is necessary for every international shipment going out of the country must clear fulfill the custom formalities and requirements. It is a declaration and the process to submit the required documents for the shipment. The documents are submitted to the valid authorities to the companies holding the custom licenses. The freight forwarders in Dubai, America or anywhere in the world can perform this process or the appointed staff for the shipment can apply for the customs clearance on your behalf. Any custom broker house which is appointed by the shipper can also do this task of custom clearance for the consignment

The cargo is not allowed to leave the country until the custom is fully cleared so, this step must be completed and to be safe it is required to be done before the shipment is forwarded to the warehouse.

Origin Handling

It is the process of inspection of the cargo and all the physical handling from accepting at the warehouse to the shipment loaded to the container. There are many steps involved in the origin handling but that all is the engagement of the logistics company. The steps involved are, the cargo is received, investigated, solidified with the other cargo, moved to the container and then sent to the port where they are to be shipped.

The payment at each step of international transport is an important process and here the Logistics companies in Dubai and other origins are paid either by the shipper or the consignee. This depends on the shipper or consignee that what they have decided either a shipper will pay or the consignee if not decided that it’s a must that the shipper will pay.

Ocean Freight

It depends on the timeline of the shipment that it has to be sent through the ocean. The contracts are already signed between the shipping companies and the carriage of the containers. The shippers have not directly linked to the carriage operators. Coming to the charges, so the shipper has to pay for the consignment at this stage of transportation. Also, the Currency difference has to be cleared while paying. This payment is not port to port.

Import Customs Clearance

Like the export custom, clearance is done by the shipper or the freight forwarder by submitting the required documents, the import clearance is done by the consignee or the freight forwarder appointed by the consignee. The import custom must be cleared before the cargo departs the target repository of the forwarder or the forwarder’s agent.

Destination Handling

Destination handling is important before handing over the consignment to the consignee. It includes the process of transferring the shipment from the ship to the container unstuff of the container and preparing the shipload to hand over to the consignee.

Import Haulage

So, the final stage of international transport is to finally deliver the shipment to the consignee. The freight forwarder can receive the consignment by themselves or the consignee can receive on their own. To unload the shipment from the truck is not the duty of the freight forwarders, its the duty of the consignee to receive the shipment and unload it.
