The right time will come when the COVID-19 coronavirus will be behind us, and the lockdown will be lifted throughout the world. If this happens, will travelling be included on your list of things to do? Will a beach vacation be the solution to your gloomy lockdown experience?
Most of us already know the fact that having a vacation at the beach is relaxing, but this is not the only reason why you should book a beachside escape. According to a study from Michigan State University, they found out that being in a location where you have the opportunity to view plenty of blue areas such as bodies of water can result in lower levels of “psychological distress.” So if you’re craving for some beach time, here are reasons why you should visit the beach after lockdown.
Feeds Your Mental Well-Being
Reflecting what happened in our lives during the lockdown nearby the water feeds the soul. It’s actually good for our well-being. Psychologists claim that the vast view of the ocean water, knowns as the “blue space” calms our mind. Do you notice how your problems seem to vanish as you simply sit staring at the ocean? Everyone gets to experience this type of peace that overcomes them. We are biologically plugged in to experience the beach.
Breathe Fresh Air
Most of us are stuck at home with fluorescent lighting and many are working from home without even getting fresh air outside. Plus, we usually spend our day around power sources and electrical devices that can lead to a big deal of positive ion exposure. Positive ions may seem to have an optimistic name but they are not really that positive for our overall health at all. These small positively charged atomic particles are said to contain properties that can bring anxiety, irritability, breathing difficulty, and an overall lack of energy.
On the other hand, negative ions are the stuff that we need which are found outdoors in natural fresh air sources, like the breeze from the sea. Negative ions will cleanse the blood, refresh cell metabolism and boost the immune system. So if you’re at a weekend getaway at the beach, make sure to breathe a lot of fresh air. It’s good for your health.
Enjoy Exhilarating Ocean Activities
The ocean is an expansive playground of awesome beach activities such as surfing, snorkelling, jet-skiing, scuba diving and the list goes on. Being inside the house for weeks can be really tiring, this is why water adventures are there whether you want to go on a romantic getaway or spend a family holiday. There are plenty of things to do at the beach aside from getting catnaps, reading a book under the palm tree, or tanning.
Restore Some Vitamin D
Staying inside the house and not getting enough sun exposure because of the lockdown can lessen our Vitamin D. In fact, our body is a manufacturer of Vitamin D and when our bodies get sun exposure, our skin uses the UVB rays to manufacture Vitamin D. This type of vitamin is utilized throughout our bodies to enhance the immune system, lung and cardiovascular health. Vitamin D regulates insulin and fortifies our bones and teeth.
So as you’re enjoying your treasure hunt looking for unique shells, don’t forget to absorb some sun and motivate your body to produce the Vitamin D it requires. However, take note that while it’s important to give our bodies some sunlight and stir up Vitamin D, you should wear sunscreen since the UVA and UVB rays can cause sunburn and even lead to skin cancer.
Sunscreen and moderate exposure are vital components when soaking up rays. Research has shown that using sunscreen doesn’t have any connection to Vitamin D production deficiency. So pile up some sunblock when going out under the sun!
Get Your Heart Rate Up
Since we’re stuck at home, most of us can’t walk outside or go to the gym. So after the lockdown, it’s great to do some long walks at the beach. It may seem like it’s not a form of exercise but because the beach sand moves under your feet as you walk or run, you actually burn plenty of calories than the normal walking or running on concrete. It’s a better workout than you can get somewhere else. Working out could be so much fun, right?
Eat Real Food (Seafood!)
Are you tired of eating those canned goods? Can’t get out of the house to cook real food? After the pandemic, it’s nice to indulge yourself with fresh seafood when you arrive at your beach vacation. Seafood is filled with an exceptional source of Omega-3 fatty acids which help lessen the risk of heart disease, arthritis and even cancer. In addition, it can also help our brain and behavioural functions. So go ahead and enjoy that seafood while you’re at the beach, they’re definitely good for you.
Unplug for a Little While
Spending the whole day watching television, using the laptop, smartphones, and other communication devices, we are more exposed to electromagnetic radiation (EMR). EMR exposure can have negative effects on our bodies after days and weeks and months of continued use. At the beach, you can easily take a break from those electronic devices since there are so many things that you can do!
